She’s Samantha Barbie

Remember that cool kid in 8th grade? The one everyone wanted to give their cheese sandwich to in exchange for their friendship (or soul)? Samantha Barbie is her. I think its fair to say Im a people person. I love meeting new people. But if someone paid me a million Milano cookies to tell the truth, I’d have to say one of my favorite new people I’ve met in the last few months would be Sam.

She may not know this but she is one of the few people who inspire me if not everyday, at least a few days out of the week. She’s right up there with Steve Jobs, Layla Robinson and Matt Hayes. We can’t help but be attracted to the charismatic energy people demonstrate and the confidence the posses. Its something we all want and enjoy.

Sam was originally a student at a music school I was affiliated with. After her piano lesson one day she wondered into my office in her rain-boots, where I was playing my guitar, and boldly asked me to teach her. Of course, I accepted. Me being the guy I was and eager to teach the art of the acoustic guitar we began free lessons which continue to this day. Sam has learned so much in the short few months we’ve known each other and I look forward to learning from her every week.

The Funny, daring, sexy, talented, witty, curious, smart and of course drop dead gorgeous Sam! She’s exactly what thousands of men like me are looking for in a woman these days. There aren’t much girls like this in Bermuda. Ill give my left arm for a clone machine right about now. Anyone?

Practicing Improvisation

Okay! Okay! I’m not the best guitar player. Im not even sure if Ill classify myself as a guitarist just yet. But boy, I do love to wrap my fingers around it.

I started playing guitar a little whiles ago and since then I’ve been working really hard at perfecting my chords. Here I do just a wee bit of rifting and a few open chords. Nothing fancy. I just love the way it sounds. Gets so good to me sometimes I get nose bleeds from the excitement. Okay! Sorry. maybe I shouldn’t have said that. Gross!

Twisting your fingers

When I first told my friends I was interested in tackling the guitar everyone laughed and sort of shrugged their shoulders. They weren’t surprised when I made the random outburst during the drive to the movies that night. And they sure as hell weren’t as excited to hear it as I was to announce it. One of them told me I’d never get it down.

Guitar

Man, its crazy. You gotta… sorta… like… twist your fingers in these weird ways and they be all jacking your finger-tips up and stuff

They were right! But the more you learn the easier it becomes, the prettier it sounds and the less it hurts. Isn’t that true with most new things you do in life? If you wanna build muscle, you gotta lift weight, sometimes it hurts, most times its hard, but it pays off in the long run. Same applies with public speaking, learning to read and cook. Well, maybe not so much cooking. I still burn toast and popcorn (the popcorn button on my microwave always burns it). Right Shadelle?

If you love the way your friend’s guitar sounds, want to learn, but figure its too much of a challenge; take it! The challenge I mean, not your friend’s guitar. Visit www.justinguitar.com and try a few free lessons. Don’t give up guys. Its easier than it seems. Now get to twisting those fingers.
