Im not sure what’s gotten into me lately. You have your bad days and your up days. My bad days are pacified by listening to aqualung and Regina Spektor. On the good days I like to throw on a funny hat and listen to Gnarls Berkley.
He’s just so weird and freaky, which makes his style of music attractive to me and thousands of other fans also. If you haven’t heard of him or his music, have a listen on itunes, if you dare.
Breakfast pots banging in the second story kitchen above my head. Annoying sounds of my MSN Messenger buddies trying to get my attention. The sound of my TV on mute from the previous night. These are the sounds of my Sunday mornings (and yes, my television does make a sound while muted. I’ve been meaning to get that fixed).
Those sounds are never my choice to wake to, but if I’d had a choice every Sunday before this one, I’d have chosen to hear Sia Furler’s voice easily waking me out of my slumber.
Sia is a Australian pop singer with a truly amazing style and mind blowing voice to go with it. Though she hasn’t been in the music scene commercially for years now, she is still one of my favorite artist. Her music had/has the potential to move millions of copies worldwide, especially after signing a recording contract for 3 albums.
The last we heard from her was the songs “Breathe Me” and “Sunday“. Where is she now? Is she planning an album for 2008? Is she working at a Starbucks in Brazil? Who knows?
I recently came across some of her latest. Yes, her latest in a few sessions at a US college. Again, Im in love with Sia all over again. I like to think she’s coming back. I’ve posted a few of the session’s YouTube links below for your pleasure.

Its hard for any music lover to put a finger on one band they love the most. Mine are seasonal. I like to listen to certain artists during certain weather conditions. I choose music that help intensify the mood Im in at the time.
I’ve always loved rock but during my earlier days strayed away from the ‘hardcore’ bands of the time. Bands like BlackSabbath never really cut the cheese for me. I find the indie rock style is a lot more favorable. One in-particular is ‘The Killers’. We all know ‘The Killers’ right? No?! Are you kidding me? Their new album ‘Sawdust’ is the best I’ve heard from them so far in my opinion. If you haven’t had a listen, your missing out.
Okay! Okay! I’m not the best guitar player. Im not even sure if Ill classify myself as a guitarist just yet. But boy, I do love to wrap my fingers around it.
I started playing guitar a little whiles ago and since then I’ve been working really hard at perfecting my chords. Here I do just a wee bit of rifting and a few open chords. Nothing fancy. I just love the way it sounds. Gets so good to me sometimes I get nose bleeds from the excitement. Okay! Sorry. maybe I shouldn’t have said that. Gross!
I’ve always wanted my own electric guitar. Everyone suggested its best to learn on an acoustic first. So I did. Now that I’ve got most of my chords down, I could call myself an intermediate player. Yippee right?
Today I purchased a new Washburn Electric Guitar. Its next in line to what I was really going for which would have been a new Electric Fender. But I’m told Washburns are favored brands among the rock community.

When I first told my friends I was interested in tackling the guitar everyone laughed and sort of shrugged their shoulders. They weren’t surprised when I made the random outburst during the drive to the movies that night. And they sure as hell weren’t as excited to hear it as I was to announce it. One of them told me I’d never get it down.
Man, its crazy. You gotta… sorta… like… twist your fingers in these weird ways and they be all jacking your finger-tips up and stuff
They were right! But the more you learn the easier it becomes, the prettier it sounds and the less it hurts. Isn’t that true with most new things you do in life? If you wanna build muscle, you gotta lift weight, sometimes it hurts, most times its hard, but it pays off in the long run. Same applies with public speaking, learning to read and cook. Well, maybe not so much cooking. I still burn toast and popcorn (the popcorn button on my microwave always burns it). Right Shadelle?
If you love the way your friend’s guitar sounds, want to learn, but figure its too much of a challenge; take it! The challenge I mean, not your friend’s guitar. Visit www.justinguitar.com and try a few free lessons. Don’t give up guys. Its easier than it seems. Now get to twisting those fingers.
And yet they keep getting better. Today Apple released one of their famous iPod + iTunes commercials. Which in my opinion is the best yet. The commercial features a performing silhouette of HipHop/R&B superstar Mary J. Blige and what sounds like a new song from maybe an upcoming album. Nevertheless, very hot.
How are ya? My name is Jesse. I blog about all sorts of things I find interesting on the web and in my life. If your lucky you might find some hobby-photography on here also. Enjoy.
